As the chill of winter melts into spring, it's time for gardeners to roll up their sleeves and prepare for planting season. Early spring is a crucial time period for garden maintenance and preparation, setting the stage for a bountiful season ahead. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or a first timer, this checklist will guide you through essential tasks to ensure your garden thrives.
Assess Your Garden: Start by strolling through your garden and assessing its condition post-winter. Look for signs of damage such as frost heave, broken branches, or pest infestations. This initial evaluation will help you prioritize tasks and plan your approach.
Clean Up Debris: Clear up that mess like fallen leaves and dead plant material that have accumulated over the winter months. Ridding your garden of organic matter will prevent the spread of disease and pests while tidying up your garden beds for new growth.
Prune Shrubs and Trees: Early spring is an ideal time to prune shrubs and trees before they start growing. Remove dead or damaged branches, shape overgrown plants, and promote healthy growth by encouraging proper airflow and sunlight penetration.
Soil Preparation: Prepare your soil for planting by loosening it with a garden fork or tiller. Incorporate organic matter such as compost or aged manure to improve soil structure, fertility, and drainage. Test your soil pH and amend it as necessary to create optimal growing conditions for your plants.
Start Seeds Indoors: Get a head start on the growing season by starting seeds indoors for vegetables, herbs, and flowers that require a longer growing period. Use seed trays or containers filled with a quality potting mix, and provide adequate light, warmth, and moisture for successful germination.
Plan Your Plantings: Take some time to plan your garden layout and select which plants you want to grow this season. Consider factors such as sunlight exposure, spacing requirements, and companion planting to maximize productivity and minimize pest problems.
Divide Perennials: Divide overcrowded perennials to rejuvenate them and create new plants for your garden. Dig up clumps of perennials such as hostas, daylilies, and irises, and carefully separate them into smaller sections with healthy roots before replanting.
Protect Against Pests and Weeds: Implement preventive measures to control pests and weeds before they become a problem. Apply organic mulch to suppress weed growth, install physical barriers like row covers to deter pests, and consider introducing beneficial insects to maintain a balanced ecosystem.
Prune Roses: Give your roses some much-needed attention by pruning them to promote vigorous growth and abundant blooms. Remove dead or diseased wood, shape the plant for aesthetic appeal, and encourage new growth by cutting back to outward-facing buds.
Maintain Garden Tools and Equipment: Lastly, don't forget to inspect and maintain your gardening tools and equipment to ensure they're in good working condition. Clean and sharpen blades, lubricate moving parts, and replace any worn-out or damaged tools to make your gardening tasks easier and more efficient.
By following this comprehensive early spring gardening checklist, you'll set the stage for a successful and rewarding gardening season ahead. From soil preparation to plant care, each step plays a crucial role in nurturing a thriving garden full of beauty and abundance. So don your gardening gloves, grab your tools, and let the gardening adventures begin!
]]>Exfoliation
Exfoliation can make or break the health of your skin. Exfoliation rids your skin of dead skin cells and excess oils, leaving behind a softer and more radiant complexion. Without regular exfoliation, breakouts and texture can occur.
Exfoliation also speeds up the skin cell renewal process, leading you to younger, plumper looking skin. Allowing dead skin cells to build up on the surface of your skin can leave your pores clogged, make it harder for products to absorb, and, of course, stand in the way of you achieving glass skin.
There are two types of exfoliation: physical and chemical. Physical exfoliation involves manually scrubbing away excess oils and dead skin cells, while chemical exfoliation loosens the bonds between cells and acids or enzymes, allowing them to slough off. Choosing the type of exfoliant comes down to your skin type and preferences.
Our favorite gentle physical exfoliant is made with one of the best natural ingredient for all skin types: Goat Milk. Hudson Valley Skin Care’s Goat-to Face Scrub features this vitamin-rich ingredient that not only naturally contains Lactic Acid, a chemical exfoliant and hydrator, Walnut and Apricot Shells to physically exfoliate and leave your skin feeling brand-new. This is the perfect exfoliant for those with sensitive skin.
Hydration
Hydration plays just as, if not a larger, role in achieving the plump skin of your dreams. When looking for hydrating products, search for humectants high on the ingredient list. Humectants are ingredients that pull moisture into your skin, and allow your skin to better retain moisture.
Some of our favorite humectants are Glycerin, Honey, Aloe Vera, and Lactic Acid. While you can purchase a separate hydrating serum to reap these hydrating benefits, many skincare products like face creams and masks already contain these skin-plumping ingredients.
Hudson Valley Skin Care’s Clarifying Clay Mask is formulated with powerful humectants like Glycerin and Honey to attract moisture to the skin while Bentonite Clay and French Green Clay clarify the pores. This is the perfect gentle mask to rid your skin of texture while leaving it bouncier than you left it.
Hudson Valley Skin Care’s Goat-to Face Cream is also an incredible hydrator. Made with Glycerin, Honey, Goat Milk, and Sunflower Seed Oil to give your skin the boost of moisture it needs to leave your skin looking plump and healthy.
Face Oils
Last but certainly not least on this list, facial oils are an underrated game-changer for glass skin. While face oils can be daunting for those with acne-prone or sensitive skin, finding the right one can elevate your skincare routine to a level you didn’t know possible.
When searching for your perfect face oil, look for non-comedogenic oils that are paired with a multitude of benefits. Hudson Valley Skin Care’s antioxidant-boosting Pure Perfection Face Oil is made with lightweight oils that mimic the natural oils already in our skin. Squalane, the vegan alternative to Squalene, is a skin-identical oil that sinks serious moisture into the skin without clogging pores or appearing greasy. Squalane works harmoniously with Sunflower Seed Oil and Vitamin E to give your skin the perfect glow, while delivering powerful vitamins and antioxidants to the epidermis.
Plump skin is more than possible to achieve naturally with the right skin care products. Remember to use the products that your skin type loves, and stay consistent with them. Just 3 simple steps in your skincare routine can take you from textured and dull to plump and hydrated.
]]>Life gets busy, and as the long days melt together, skincare often takes a backseat until visible issues arise. However, the age-old adage “prevention is better than correction” holds especially true when it comes to our skin. Let’s get into why taking a proactive approach can help you avoid skin conditions and concerns and maintain healthy, radiant skin.
]]>Saves Money
We all know it: skincare products and treatments are expensive. By adopting a preventative skincare routine, you are saving your future self from having to buy even more expensive treatment products. Regularly cleansing, moisturizing, and applying SPF can significantly reduce the need to spend on corrective measures later in life.
Healthy Aging
As we age, our skin begins to produce less collagen, and environmental factors like UV rays can begin to take effect. By maintaining a skincare routine, and using sunscreen everyday, you can help promote healthier aging.
Pain & Discomfort
When left unchecked, skin conditions can grow painful and uncomfortable. Preventative skincare products, and regular visits to your dermatologist/esthetician can help identify problems in the earliest stages, preventing the discomfort your future self could experience.
Environmental Factors
The environment constantly exposes our skin to pollutants, UV rays, and harsh weather conditions. Preventative measures such as protective clothing and applying suitable skincare products prevents both immediate and long term skin damage.
Mind-Body Connection
Our skin reflects our overall health. Adopting a preventative skincare routine is the catalyst for a positive ripple effect on our mental and physical well-being. The appearance of your skin can reflect in your confidence, and healthy skin can have a positive impact on many aspects of our lives, including relationships and professional success.
Understanding Your Skin
Preventative skincare is also about educating yourself on your skin. Identifying potential triggers, making informed choices about products and lifestyle, and getting a deeper understanding of your skin type allows you to take control of your skin health, and make educated decisions that reap long-term results.
Prevention is not merely a concept, but a powerful strategy that pays dividends in the long run. By taking small, proactive steps today, you can enjoy healthy, radiant skin tomorrow.
]]>Omega Fatty Acids fall into the Essential Fatty Acid (EFA) category. These fatty acids are characterized by the fact that our bodies cannot naturally produce them, but their benefits are vital to our health. The most common EFAs you might find in your skincare products are Linoleic Acid (Omega-6), Alpha-Linoleic Acid (Omega 3), and Oleic A cid (Omega 9). When applied to your skin, these fatty acids can have a major impact on health and suppleness, but consuming them through food or supplementation is a game-changer.
Consume your skincare with these Omega Fatty Acid-rich foods and supplements:
Omega-3: Fish oils, vegetable oils, walnut oil, and leafy greens.
Omega-6: Safflower, Grapeseed, Sunflower, Soybean, and Sesame Oils
Omega-9: Olive, Sunflower, Flaxseeds.
Omega Fatty Acids help to strengthen your skin while promoting a supple, youthful complexion. When applied topically, these powerful skincare ingredients can repair a damaged moisture barrier, soothe sensitive, inflamed skin, reduce the effects from environmental stressors like UV rays, and regulate oil production while increasing moisture retention.
How to Enhance Your Skincare Routine With Omega Fatty Acids
One of our favorite ways to sneak these essential fatty acids into your skincare regimen is with Goat Milk. Goat Milk skincare products are filled to the brim with Omega Fatty Acids, vitamins, and antioxidants to transform dry, dull skin into a plump hydrated complexion.
Our favorite Goat Milk skincare products are made in small batches, lack unnecessary filler ingredients, and remain as sustainable as possible. Hudson Valley Skin Care’s Goat-to face line includes a Creamy Cleanser, Face Scrub, and Face Cream. All are rich with Goat Milk, Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E, Sunflower Seed Oil, and more to leave your skin looking and feeling brand new.
HVSC didn’t stop with just a face line. The benefits of Goat Milk extend from your head to your toes with haircare, bar soaps, body lotions, and more. Each comes with their own unique set of benefits, but all of them boast the same essential skincare ingredient: Omega Fatty Acids.
Oils are some of the best ways to obtain the benefits of these essential fatty acids. Sunflower Seed Oil is 70% Linoleic Acid (Omega-6), making it one of the most nutrient-dense oils in skincare. Hudson Valley Skin Care obtains this liquid gold from a local farm located just minutes from their lab, meaning freshness and quality is always guaranteed.
HVSC’s Pure Perfection Face Oil is formulated with not only this essential fatty acid-rich ingredient, but other non-comedogenic oils with a multitude of benefits like Squalane and Vitamin E. Patting 2 drops of this oil onto your skin will leave you glowing from within, while delivering vitamins and nutrients that reap long-lasting rewards.
Omega Fatty Acids will continue to take the skincare industry by storm as more and more people realize their enormous benefits. We recommend not only including these essential compounds in your topical skincare routine, but also ensuring they are a part of your diet.
]]>What is Oil Cleansing?
Oil cleansing is the first step in a double cleansing routine. Because like attracts like, oil cleansers are known to wash away excess oils and makeup more efficiently and effective. Oil cleansers should be massaged into dry skin for at least a minute before rinsed off and followed with a water-based cleanser.
Is Oil Cleansing Actually Necessary?
One scroll through the skincare hashtag on Tik Tok will lead you to trends varying from “skin flooding,” to skin icing, to oil cleansing. Each trend and product boasts miraculous claims that suggest this is the missing piece to your glass skin puzzle.
Marketing professionals are great at your job, and superb at convincing you the latest and greatest product is a must-have on your skincare shelf. If you truly desire healthy skin, it is time to stop paying so much attention to the consumerist noise that sometimes deafens us on social media.
So, no, oil cleansing is not completely necessary. If these types of cleansers don’t work for you, water-based cleansers will remove makeup, excess oils, and dirt just as well as an oil cleanser will. For your individual skin needs, you might find that Micellar Water or a hydrating creamy cleanser works best as your first cleanse.
Don’t get us wrong, oil cleansing has proven to be beneficial for many people, but it does not mean that it will work for you.
Will Oil Cleansers Break You Out?
The first question that popped into ours, and probably your, head was whether or not oil cleansing will cause breakouts. Like any skincare product, the answer is relative to the individual. Everyone’s skin is unique to them, and while something might work for others, it is no guarantee that it will work for you too. For acne-prone skin, if you do prefer to oil cleanse, ensure that your cleanser uses lightweight oils proven not to cause blemishes like Squalane and Jojoba Oil.
If you do choose to use an oil cleanser, be sure to double cleanse, following with a water-based cleanser to ensure the remnants of the oil cleanser have been removed. Listen to your skin, use ingredients it likes, and focus less on what social media has to say about it.
Should You Oil Cleanse?
Like our first question, this is all up to your individual skin type and concerns. Oil cleansing can have great benefits for the skin, but that doesn’t mean it is for everyone. You can still achieve clean, radiant skin whether you stick to water-based cleansers or begin your oil cleansing journey.
Let 2024 be the year you listen more to your own skin, and less to social media trends.
]]>Hydration Heaven
Formulated with humectants and moisturizers like Honey, Goat Milk, and Organic Oats, our bar soaps are made with dry, sensitive skin in mind. Body cleansers, especially bar soaps, can be harsh and drying on the skin, which is why we wanted to create a cleanser that leaves your skin supple and hydrated.
Gentle Cleansing
Sensitive skin requires a delicate touch, which is why our bar soaps gently cleanse without stripping your skin of its natural oils. Free from harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances, these soaps cleanse your skin without causing irritation.
Nature's Calming Touch
Natural skin soothers like Goat Milk, Shea Butter, and Castor Oil have anti-inflammatory properties that calm irritation, redness, and dryness. Our bar soaps are made to leave your skin feeling cleansed while still feeling smooth and soft to the touch.
Environmental Friendliness
Going natural isn't just good for your skin; it's also a choice for the environment. At Hudson Valley Skin Care, we take sustainability a step further. Not only do we locally source ingredients like Coffee and Beer from local farms, but everything is made in our own lab in upstate New York. This allows us to keep our carbon footprint at a minimum while creating fresh, high-quality skincare.
In the quest for healthy and radiant skin, the answer might be as simple as returning to nature with natural bar soaps. Hydrating, gentle, and laden with the goodness of botanical ingredients, these bars offer a holistic approach to skincare. Bid farewell to dryness and sensitivity as you embrace the wonders of natural bar soap – your skin will thank you for it.
]]>Effortless Makeup Removal: A Beauty Ritual Simplified
Say goodbye to the struggle of stubborn makeup removal. A cleansing balm's unique formula effortlessly dissolves makeup, even the most resilient types. This means less tugging, less irritation, and a simplified routine that leaves your skin feeling fresh and clean.
When formulating our Pure Perfection Multi-Use Balm, we wanted to create a product that could cleanse, moisturize, and hydrate. Packed with nourishing, antioxidant-rich ingredients like Squalane, Vitamin E, Shea Butter, and locally sourced Beeswax. This all-in-one balm can be used to melt away makeup and SPF, moisturize dry skin, and even a deep conditioner for your hair.
Gentle Cleansing: A Soothing Touch for Your Skin
If your current cleanser leaves your skin feeling stripped or irritated, it might be time for a change. Cleansing balms offer a gentle touch, effectively removing impurities without compromising your skin's natural barrier. The result? Clean, refreshed skin without the harsh aftermath.
Hydration Booster: Nourishing Your Skin Barrier
Not just a cleanser, a quality cleansing balm doubles as a hydration booster. As it cleanses, it leaves behind a thin layer of moisture, contributing to a well-nourished skin barrier. This is why we choose lightweight, fatty acid rich butters and oils like Cocoa Butter and Vitamin E to lock in long-lasting moisture.
Time-Saving Magic: Streamlining Your Skincare Routine
In a world where time is precious, the cleansing balm steps in as a time-saving magician. With its dual ability to remove makeup and cleanse, it streamlines your skincare routine. Enjoy the efficiency of a multi-tasking product that simplifies your beauty regimen without compromising effectiveness.
Makeup remover, cleanser, and moisturizer all in one. Our Pure Perfection Cleansing Balm is an efficient multi-tasker, and makes the perfect product for those looking for a simple skincare routine.
Deep Cleanse Delight: Purifying Your Pores
Our rich formula penetrates deep into your skin, removing impurities and leaving it revitalized. Our cleansing balm is especially great for oily skin, as it helps keep your barrier healthy and prevents excess oil production.
Cleansing balms are one of the best options when choosing the first step in your double-cleansing routine, or if you’re just looking for a way to streamline your self-care routine.
]]>One of the most common skincare myths about oily skin is that it doesn’t need to be hydrated or moisturized. However, oily skin is not immune to skin dehydration. While dry skin is classified as a skin type, skin dehydration is a skin condition that all skin types can experience. Let’s get into why this happens, and how to treat and prevent it.
The Oily Skin Paradox: More Oil, Less Moisture
It's a paradox – oily skin can still lack moisture. The excess oil produced by oily skin can create a barrier that traps water beneath the surface, leading to dehydrated skin. Hydration isn't just about water; it's about maintaining the delicate balance between oil and moisture. When your skin is dehydrated, especially if your skin is oily, it ends up producing more oils to make up for the lack of moisture. This skin condition can spiral into other ones like Acne.
Culprit #1: Harsh Skincare Routine
Oily skin doesn't need to be punished. Harsh skincare routines, including over-cleansing and using drying products, can strip the skin of its natural oils, triggering a response where the skin produces even more oil to compensate. This cycle can lead to dehydrated and oily skin.
Cut back on the excess actives and exfoliating products. While ingredients like Salicylic Acid are great at treating acne, less is more. Even oily skin only needs exfoliation 1-3 times per week, and exfoliants shouldn’t be mixed with other active ingredients like Retinol.
Overlooking Hydration: A Common Oversight
The belief that oily skin doesn't need hydration is a common oversight. Skipping moisturizer or using products that focus solely on oil control can deprive your skin of essential hydration, leaving it dehydrated and potentially exacerbating oiliness.
Instead of skipping them altogether, choose lightweight moisturizers designed for oily or acne-prone skin. Gel moisturizers with humectants like Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid, and Honey may be more suitable for your skin type.
Pro tip: apply your hydrators and moisturizers on damp skin to increase absorption.
Environmental Stressors: Dehydrating the Oiliest of Skin
Environmental factors, like harsh weather conditions and air pollution, can stress the skin. Oily skin, though resilient, can react by becoming dehydrated. Combatting these stressors with proper hydration is crucial for maintaining a healthy skin barrier.
Especially during the winter, it’s extra important to keep your skin moisturized to combat the dryness that results from indoor heating and harsh, cold air.
Hydration Beyond Water: The Role of Humectants
Hydration isn't just about chugging water (though that's important too!). Humectants, like hyaluronic acid and glycerin, draw water to the skin without adding excess oil. Choosing non-comedogenic moisturizers with these ingredients is a game-changer for dehydrated oily skin.
Oily skin may seem like it's in a league of its own, but when it comes to hydration, it plays by the same rules. Dehydration in oily skin is a real concern, and the key lies in finding the right balance. By avoiding harsh skincare, prioritizing hydration, and understanding the environmental stressors, you can keep your oily skin happy, healthy, and well-hydrated. Remember, it's not about denying the oil; it's about embracing the moisture your skin craves.
]]>Jojoba Oil: Nature's Mimic
Jojoba Oil, often hailed as nature's mimic, closely resembles the skin's natural oils. This makes it an excellent choice for acne-prone skin. It hydrates without overwhelming, providing a soothing touch that helps regulate oil production.
Jojoba Oil is also a carrier oil for Retinoids, meaning it helps it penetrate more into the skin. Pat 1-2 drops of pure Jojoba Oil or a facial oil that contains this oil over your Retinoid. Our favorite Jojoba Oil-infused facial oil is our antioxidant boosting Pure Perfection Facial Oil, packed with other nourishing ingredients like Squalane and Sunflower Seed Oil to deeply moisturize dry skin without clogging pores or causing breakouts.
Squalane: The Other Mimic
Like Jojoba Oil, Squalane mimics the natural oils in our skin. This non-comedogenic, lightweight oil sinks moisture into the skin without leaving skin too greasy or heavy. This is one of our favorite oils for acne-prone skin due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
Argan Oil: Liquid Gold for Your Skin
Often referred to as liquid gold, Argan Oil is a multitasking non-comedogenic wonder. It hydrates, nourishes, and helps regulate sebum production.
Sunflower Seed Oil: Locally Sourced Goodness
Sunflower Seed Oil does it all; it deeply moisturizes skin, evens out skin tone, and protects your skin from environmental stressors. Rich in antioxidants and vitamins like E, A, C, and K, this oil strengthens your skin barrier and allows inflamed skin to heal.
We locally source our Sunflower Seed Oil locally from the Hudson Valley to ensure quality and freshness while supporting our local community as well as the environment.
Who said oils and acne-prone skin can’t be friends? Acne-prone skin is often dried out and dehydrated by harsh actives, and the right oils can help to keep your moisture barrier strong and protected.
]]>The Balancing Act: Hydration's Gentle Touch
Acne-prone skin is like a delicate dance; it craves balance. Instead of bombarding it with harsh active ingredients, opt for a gentle, hydrating touch. Though drying out the Acne might seem like the right thing to do, this only leads to more inflammation and irritation. Hydration helps maintain your skin's natural balance, soothing inflammation and providing the support it needs to heal.
The Dangers of Over-Exfoliation: Kindness is Key
While exfoliation has its merits, overdoing it can lead to irritation and worsen acne. Moisturizing regularly keeps your skin barrier intact, preventing excessive moisture loss and reducing the risk of over-exfoliation-related issues. It’s best to only exfoliate 1-2 times per week, and avoid using other active ingredients like Retinol in the same routine.
Glycerin: The Hydration Hero
Glycerin is our favorite ingredient for dehydrated, acne-prone skin. This natural humectant draws moisture into the skin while helping it retain water. Glycerin is one of the key ingredients in our extra gentle Goat-to Face line alongside Goat Milk, Sunflower Seed Oil, and Honey.
Mindful Moisturizing: Choosing the Right Hydrators
Not all moisturizers are created equal. Do your own research on different skincare ingredients and choose products whose ingredient lists reflect your individual skin type and needs. Our Goat-to Creamy Cleanser and Face Cream cleanse, hydrate, and deeply moisturize your skin with powerful but soothing ingredients like Goat Milk, Vitamin E, and Rosemary Extract.
For extra dry or damaged skin, incorporating a facial oil in your routine can make a huge difference. It may sound scary and counterintuitive to use an oil on acne-prone skin, but it all comes down to choosing the right oil. Our antioxidant boosting Pure Perfection Face Oil deeply moisturizes skin without clogging pores or causing breakouts. Formulated with Squalane, Sunflower Seed Oil, and Vitamin E, this vitamin and fatty acid rich oil sinks nutrients into the skin to leave your barrier hydrated and protected.
When it comes to acne-prone skin, the mantra is clear: hydrate, don't aggravate. Harsh active ingredients might promise quick fixes, but the gentle touch of hydration often yields longer-lasting results. Embrace the balancing act, choose kinder skincare options, and let hydration be the guiding light for your acne-prone skin journey.
]]>Snowy Reflections: UV Rays Bounce Back
While you might not feel the warmth of the sun on snowy days, snow acts as a natural reflector for UV rays. Wearing sunscreen forms a protective barrier, protecting your skin from the sun and its effects on the skin.
The Altitude Factor: UV Intensity at Higher Elevations
If your winter plans involve hitting the slopes or enjoying mountainous regions, it is important to remember that UV intensity increases with altitude. As you ascend, the atmosphere thins, allowing more UV rays to penetrate your skin. Sunscreen becomes your reliable companion in navigating winter activities at higher elevations.
Daily Defense Against Premature Aging: UV-Induced Wrinkles
UV rays are consistent culprits in the premature aging game. Even on cloudy winter days, these rays penetrate clouds and windows, causing long-term damage. Regular sunscreen use acts as your daily defense, preventing wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots, and helping you maintain youthful and healthy skin.
Combatting Winter Dryness: Sunscreen as a Hydration Hero
Winter often brings dry and dehydrating conditions. Some sunscreens come with moisturizing properties, serving a dual purpose. By applying sunscreen, you not only shield your skin from UV rays but also lock in moisture, ensuring your skin stays hydrated and radiant despite the winter cold.
Reducing Skin Cancer Risk: A Year-Round Commitment
Skin cancer doesn't hibernate in winter. UV exposure is a continuous risk factor, and consistent sunscreen use is crucial for long-term skin health. Protect yourself from the potential harm of UV rays, reduce the risk of skin cancer, and make sun protection a year-round commitment.
As winter wraps its chilly embrace, don't let the season fool you into neglecting your sunscreen. Whether you're frolicking in the snow, hitting the slopes, or simply going about your daily routine, UV rays persist, and their effects can be long-lasting. Embrace sunscreen as your winter skincare ally, defending your skin against reflections, altitude, premature aging, winter dryness, and the persistent risk of skin cancer. Winter glow is not just about the snow; it's about radiant and protected skin that lasts through every season.
]]>Glowing Skin, Healthy Within: The Power of Nutrition
A radiant complexion often begins with a well-balanced diet. Nutrient-rich foods contribute to healthy skin by providing essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Paying attention to your skin's appearance can prompt adjustments in your diet to support a glowing, well-nourished complexion.
Though a well-balanced diet cannot balance your skin on its own, it’s a huge help. Pay attention to how your skin looks and feels after eating different foods; dairy, sugar, and gluten can be inflammatory for the body and skin. We prefer adding foods rather than cutting them out to ensure you’re getting your essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants without restricting yourself.
Inflammation Signals: Acne, Eczema, and Internal Stress
Inflammatory skin conditions like Acne and Eczema can be indicators of internal stress or imbalances. Addressing the root causes, such as hormonal fluctuations or dietary triggers, can lead to improvements in both skin health and overall well-being.
Liver Health and Skin Clarity: Detoxifying from Within
A healthy liver plays a crucial role in detoxifying the body, and its condition often manifests on the skin. Skin issues like dark spots or a dull complexion can signal the need to support liver health through hydration, a balanced diet, and lifestyle adjustments.
While there are plenty of “detox teas” on the market, the best detoxer is already built in to our bodies. Our liver’s job is to detox toxins and other unwanted substances from our body. When your liver is not working properly, this can lead to inflammation that manifests itself as certain skin conditions like Acne. Hydration, balanced diet, and lifestyle adjustments like cutting back on alcohol consumption can help support health liver function.
Hormonal Harmony: Skin as an Endocrine Indicator
Hormonal fluctuations can directly impact the skin, leading to issues like hormonal acne. Recognizing these connections allows for a holistic approach to skincare that addresses both external symptoms and underlying hormonal imbalances, promoting clearer and healthier skin.
Hormonal Acne and other common skin conditions occur due to hormonal fluctuations in our bodies. If you tend to break out around a certain time each month, and the breakouts are normally on your cheeks, chin, and neck, this is a sign of an underlying hormonal imbalance. Addressing hormonal issues can do wonders for clearing up your skin and preventing irritation.
Your skin is a dynamic organ that reflects the intricate balance within your body. By understanding the link between your skin and internal health, you gain valuable insights into potential imbalances or areas that may need attention. Whether it's adjusting your diet, managing stress, or supporting organ health, the journey to radiant skin begins by acknowledging the profound connection between your skin's appearance and your body's internal harmony. Embrace the opportunity to cultivate a holistic approach to health, where your skin becomes not only a canvas for beauty but also a guide to a healthier, more balanced you.

]]>Hands are one of the most ignored parts of our body when it comes to keeping our skin moisturized, but they’re also one of the first to show signs of aging. If you’ve been neglecting your hands in your skincare routine, here’s five reasons to stop.
Preventing Dryness and Cracks: The Unsung Heroes of Your Daily Grind
Our hands bear the brunt of daily activities, from household chores to exposure to environmental elements. Regular moisturization acts as a protective barrier, preventing dryness and cracks that can be painful and unsightly.
Combatting Signs of Aging
Just like our face, our hands show signs of aging. Dry and neglected hands can develop wrinkles and fine lines. By keeping your hands moisturized, you can combat the visible effects of aging, maintaining a more youthful and vibrant appearance.
Maintaining Healthy Nails and Cuticles
Healthy hands extend beyond the skin's surface. Moisturizing your hands regularly helps maintain the health of your nails and cuticles. Strong, well-nourished nails can be achieved through a comprehensive approach that includes proper hand moisturization.
Preventing Skin Conditions
Dry and cracked hands are more susceptible to skin conditions like hand dermatitis and eczema. By consistently moisturizing your hands, you create a protective barrier that minimizes the risk of developing these uncomfortable and often painful skin conditions.
Enhancing Overall Skin Health
Our hands are an integral part of our body, and their health contributes to our overall skincare. Regular hand moisturization is a key component of a holistic approach to skincare, ensuring that every part of your body receives the care it deserves.
Don't let your hands suffer in silence. By recognizing the importance of keeping your hands moisturized, you not only promote soft and supple skin but also contribute to your overall skin health. Make hand moisturization a non-negotiable part of your daily routine, and watch as your hands transform into a symbol of health, vitality, and care.
]]>Glycerin: The Hydration Hero
Glycerin is a powerhouse when it comes to hydration. This naturally occurring substance helps your skin attract and retain water, keeping your moisture barrier intact.
Glycerin is one of the main ingredients in our Goat-to Face Cream, alongside other powerful ingredients like Goat Milk, Sunflower Seed Oil, and Honey.
Shea Butter: Nature's Nourishment
Shea Butter is a rich, creamy substance derived from the nuts of the Shea Tree. It's known for its high concentration of fatty acids and vitamins, making it an excellent emollient for dry and flaky skin.
Goat Milk: Reinforce Your Skin Barrier
Goat Milk is one of our favorite skincare ingredients, as it boasts a long list of benefits for your skin. Not only does this all-natural ingredient deeply moisturize dry skin, but it hydrates and gently exfoliates with naturally occurring Lactic Acid.
You can find Goat Milk in our bar soaps, face line, body lotion, and more.
Jojoba Oil: Mimic Your Skin's Natural Oils
Jojoba Oil is a plant-based oil that closely resembles the natural oils produced by our skin. It's rich in vitamins and minerals, making it an excellent choice for nourishing dry and parched skin. This incredible oil is also a carrier ingredient for Retinol, meaning it helps to increase the efficacy and benefits of this anti-ager.
Vitamin E: The Antioxidant Shield
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the skin from free radical damage caused by environmental stressors, such as harsh winter weather and pollution. We use Vitamin E in all of our moisturizing products to ensure that your skin is protected year round.
Winter can wreak havoc on your skin, but it doesn’t have to. Building your skincare routine with your environment, skin type, and skin needs in mind can help keep your skin barrier healthy and protected regardless of the season.
The pursuit of smooth, hair-free skin often comes with an unwelcome companion: razor bumps. These pesky, red bumps can mar the post-shaving glow and lead to discomfort. While there are various methods to tackle razor bumps, an unexpected yet effective solution lies in your bathroom cabinet: conditioner. In this blog post, we'll explore the benefits of shaving with conditioner to prevent and treat razor bumps, allowing you to enjoy the silky, bump-free skin you desire.
The Razor Bump Predicament
Razor bumps, also known as pseudofolliculitis barbae, occur when shaved hair regrows and curls back into the skin. This leads to inflammation, redness, and sometimes even infection. While various factors contribute to their formation, the technique and products used during shaving play a crucial role in preventing and addressing razor bumps.
Conditioner: A Secret Weapon for Razor Bumps
Step-by-Step Guide: Shaving with Conditioner
Why Choose Conditioner for Shaving?
Bidding farewell to razor bumps doesn't require an arsenal of specialized products. By incorporating conditioner into your shaving routine, you're tapping into a simple yet effective solution that hydrates, softens, and protects your skin. The next time you reach for your razor, consider reaching for the conditioner as well—your skin will thank you with a bump-free, silky-smooth outcome that boosts your confidence and elevates your shaving experience.

We all know ingredients like Retinoids and exfoliating acids can aid in keeping our skin young and supple, but for those who prefer natural skincare, you can still find ingredients that prevent and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Understanding the Needs of Aging Skin
Aging skin undergoes various transformations such as reduced collagen production, decreased moisture retention, and the emergence of fine lines and wrinkles. ]]>Fall and Winter are the best seasons to introduce warm, sweet scents into your self-care routine. November’s Soap of the Month, Oatmeal Stout, is just what you need for those chilly months of the year. Oatmeal Stout was created with a unique blend of oatmeal, orange peel, butterscotch, and vanilla to help you sweeten up your skincare routine.
]]>This soap’s cozy fusion of scents is perfect for those who just can’t get enough of the sweet fragrances of Fall. Scents like vanilla not only have great skin benefits, it can also relieve stress or anxiety. Warm scents incorporated into the Oatmeal Stout Bar Soap have a calming effect both for the skin and our minds.
One of the main ingredients in this unique bar soap is, believe it or not, beer! We obtain beer locally through Hudson Brewing Co. The malt found in beer has a variety of distinct benefits to the skin such as an increase in collagen production, improving circulation, and exfoliation.
Hydrators like Glycerin and Honey help to pull moisture into your skin and lock it in. This seriously increases the health of your skin while preventing dullness, fine lines and wrinkles, and skin texture.
Integrating relaxing scents into your self-care routine can have an immense amount of benefits to both you and your skin. The simple but effective ingredients that make up our bar soaps will transform your skin into the most healthy, glowing skin you’ve ever seen.
]]>Gentle and Nourishing Ingredients
One of the standout benefits of natural bar soap lies in its ingredients. Unlike commercial body washes that often contain harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances, natural bar soap is crafted from gentle and nourishing ingredients. Natural oils, such as coconut oil, olive oil, and shea butter, form the foundation of these soaps, providing your skin with essential nutrients and hydration. The absence of harsh additives makes natural bar soap suitable for even the most sensitive skin types. We formulate our natural bar soaps with Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Shea Butter, Locally Sourced Honey, Glycerin, and Organic Oats to deliver nourishment and hydration to your skin.
Free from Harmful Chemicals
Mass-produced liquid soaps often contain a cocktail of chemicals that can strip your skin of its natural oils and disrupt its pH balance. Natural bar soap, on the other hand, is typically free from sulfates, parabens, and synthetic fragrances. By making the switch, you're giving your skin a break from these potentially harmful substances and embracing a more wholesome cleansing experience.
Reduced Environmental Impact
The sustainability factor is a compelling reason to embrace natural bar soap. Unlike liquid soaps that require plastic packaging, natural bar soaps can be packaged minimally or even completely plastic-free. This reduction in packaging not only reduces waste but also lessens your carbon footprint. We take sustainability to the next level by formulating, manufacturing, and distributing our products from our own skincare lab, allowing us to reduce our carbon footprint and environmental waste as much as possible.
Cost-Effective and Long-Lasting
Natural bar soap offers impressive value for your money. A single bar of natural soap tends to last longer than a bottle of liquid soap. This longevity not only reduces the frequency of repurchases but also minimizes packaging waste. As a result, you can enjoy quality skincare without breaking the bank.
Versatility and Convenience
Natural bar soap isn't just limited to body cleansing. Many brands offer specialized bar soaps for various purposes, including facial cleansing, shampooing, and shaving. This versatility means you can simplify your skincare routine while decluttering your bathroom shelves. Additionally, the compact size of bar soaps makes them travel-friendly, reducing the need for travel-sized plastic containers.
Supporting Local Artisans and Businesses
As a small, local business, connecting with our community is by far our favorite part of the job (right up there with making soap, of course). Supporting local businesses and artisans is so important, and we love incorporating pieces of our home into every product we create which is why we locally source our ingredients from all across the Hudson Valley.
The benefits of switching to natural bar soap extend far beyond the aesthetics of a beautifully crafted bar. From its gentle and nourishing ingredients to its reduced environmental impact and cost-effectiveness, natural bar soap checks multiple boxes for those seeking a more wholesome and eco-conscious skincare routine. By making the switch, you're not only nurturing your skin but also participating in a movement towards cleaner, greener living. Embrace the simplicity and effectiveness of natural bar soap, and discover a world of rejuvenation and sustainability in every lather.
]]>Clean and Non-Toxic
One of the most enticing benefits of Soy Wax candles is their clean burn. Unlike paraffin candles, which are derived from petroleum, Soy Wax is a natural and renewable resource. This means that Soy Wax candles burn more cleanly, producing fewer toxins and pollutants. As a result, your indoor air quality remains uncompromised, ensuring a healthier environment for you, your loved ones, and your pets.
Longer Burn Time
Soy-Wax candles typically have a longer burn time compared to Paraffin Wax candles. Due to its lower melting point, Soy Wax burns slower and more evenly, allowing you to enjoy your candle for longer periods of time. This longevity helps you get a better bang for your buck.
Eco-Friendly Choice
Soy-Wax is much more eco-friendly than Paraffin Wax. Derived from soybeans, Soy Wax is a renewable and biodegradable resource. Choosing Soy Wax over Paraffin helps support sustainable agriculture and reduces the demand for petroleum-based products. By opting for soy wax candles, you're contributing to a greener planet.
Minimal Soot and Residue
Soot buildup on walls and ceilings is a common concern with traditional Paraffin candles. The clean burn of soy wax candles significantly reduces the production of soot, keeping your living spaces cleaner and requiring less maintenance. Moreover, the minimal residue means less cleaning and maintenance for your candle holders and surfaces.
Enhanced Fragrance Throw
Soy wax candles possess the ability to hold and distribute fragrance more effectively than paraffin candles. The porous nature of soy wax allows it to absorb essential oils and scents more thoroughly, resulting in a stronger and longer-lasting aroma. Whether you prefer the calming scent of lavender or the invigorating notes of citrus, soy wax candles provide a heightened sensory experience.
Supporting Local Farmers
The production of soy wax supports local farmers, particularly those engaged in sustainable agriculture. Soybeans are grown in many regions, creating economic opportunities for local communities. By choosing soy wax candles, you're indirectly supporting farmers who prioritize environmentally conscious practices.
Our Soy-Wax Candles are made fresh in our own skincare lab in Upstate New York. These safer for you, aromatic, luxe candles fill your home with cozy, sweet, and fresh scents without the worry of harsh toxins being released into your home. Four limited edition Fall candles include Pumpkin Spice, Caramel Corn, Fallen Leaves, and Crisp Apple. These candles are the perfect way to welcome the coziness of the season into your space.
Soy wax candles are much more than just a decorative addition to your home; they offer a range of benefits that extend beyond their captivating glow. From their clean burn and extended burn time to their eco-friendly nature and enhanced fragrance throw, soy wax candles are a choice that resonates with the environmentally conscious and those seeking a healthier, more pleasant indoor atmosphere. Make the switch to soy wax candles, and transform your space into a haven of natural beauty and serenity while contributing to a cleaner, greener world.

]]>What is Farm-to-Face?
Farm-to-Face means ingredients grown on small farms and used in skincare products to give you the results you deserve without harsh chemicals or toxins. The benefits of natural ingredients in skincare have become more and more apparent, and we wanted to incorporate them into our gentle, handcrafted skincare products. Let’s get into our locally sourced ingredients and their skin benefits.
Sunflower Seed Oil
Sunflower Seed Oil is one of our most used and loved skincare ingredients. We source this amazing ingredient from Hudson Valley Cold Pressed Oils right in our lab’s home of Pleasant Valley. Sunflower Seed Oil is ultra-moisturizing, which is why you can find it in a majority of our products. Sunflower Seed Oil is packed with vitamins and antioxidants like Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and Vitamin K that increase your skin’s health overtime.
Organic Oats
Organic Oats are another multi-beneficial ingredient that you can find in many of our products. We locally source our Organic Oats from Gianforte Farm in Cazenovia, New York. Oats are moisturizing, exfoliating, and a natural cleanser. We use Organic Oats in our Natural Bar Soaps, Clarifying Clay Mask, and more to give you the soft, hydrated skin of your dreams.
Beeswax
Beeswax has become an increasingly popular ingredient in skincare products due to it’s hydrating, anti-inflammatory properties. Our Beeswax is sourced locally from Crystal’s Honey, and it’s ultra-nourishing properties make it a favorite ingredient for those with a damaged skin barrier. Beeswax creates a hydrating, protective barrier on the skin that aids in protecting it from environmental factors such as pollution.
Coffee
When asked about the benefits of Coffee, higher energy levels are the first thing that come to mind. To us, it’s skincare benefits far outweigh the benefits paired with drinking it. Coffee is a natural exfoliant that rids your skin of dead skin cells without being too harsh on sensitive skin. Coffee is also known to soothe and depuff inflamed, irritated skin, reduce cellulite, and fade hyperpigmentation. We locally source our Coffee from Irving Farm in Millerton, New York.
Honey
Honey is another increasingly popular skin and haircare ingredient. Sourced from Hummingbird Ranch in Salt Point, New York, Honey is a hydrating, healing, and protective ingredient that helps maintain a healthy skin barrier.
Beer
Did you know Beer actually comes with a variety of skin benefits? The Malt found in beer gently exfoliates skin, helps to increase Collagen production, and prevents signs of aging in the skin. We source our beer from local brewery Hudson Brewing Co.
]]>Patchouli is a flowering plant a part of the mint family. Its leaves are extremely fragrant and are used to treat fungal skin infections and eczema. Patchouli Oil can also increase collagen production, leaving your skin softer and healthier.
We’re keeping the spirit of Woodstock alive with all-natural, locally sourced ingredients from right here in the Hudson Valley. We obtain our oats from a local farm and mill, Wild Hive Farm. They’re the perfect ingredient for gently exfoliating the skin without causing any damage to the skin barrier. These are great for treating various skin conditions such as Eczema, Psoriasis, and overall dryness in the skin.
If you’re still celebrating Woodstock 54 years later, our Grateful Hippy Patchouli Bar Soap is perfect for you.
]]>Most lip balms only provide your lips with temporary relief, but actually end up leaving them more cracked and irritated. Part of this problem is the fact that the moisture the lip balm provides evaporates, and leaves your lips even more dehydrated. That’s why we created a lip balm with all-natural ingredients proven to increase the overall moisture and health of your lips. Our special formulas combine nourishing butters and oils to leave your lips soft and smooth long after application.
Sunflower Seed Oil
Sunflower Seed Oil is antioxidant and vitamin-rich, actually increasing the health of your lips rather than putting a temporary bandage on dry, chapped lips. Sunflower Seed Oil is also high in Linoleic Acid, an anti-inflammatory ingredient known to protect and repair the skin barrier.
Avocado Oil
Avocado Oil is another immensely effective skin hydrator. This ingredient has been known to decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the skin, leaving your lips softer and plumper after application.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is one of our favorite skincare ingredients. Vitamin E works to prevent and repair free radical damage, calming inflammation and redness while sinking necessary nutrients into your skin barrier.
If you’re anything like us, lip balm never leaves your side, but choosing the right lip balm is key to hydrated, healthy lips. Our all-natural Lip Balms don’t leave your lips feeling dry or dehydrated once it’s faded, instead leaving behind supple, moisturized lips.
