5 Hiking Essentials You Didn't Know You Needed

5 Things You Didn’t Know You Need to Bring on a Hike

Hiking is one of our favorite ways to connect with nature and see more of what the Hudson Valley has to offer. When hiking, it’s important to take along the right supplies to ensure your experience is fun and relaxing. We’re sharing five items you may not think you need to bring on a hike, but absolutely do.

Bug Spray

Pesky bugs can take away from the experience of hiking, and even make you want to end your hike early. Throwing a bug spray into your hiking bag can quite literally save your day and your skin. Our favorite bug spray is Hudson Valley Skin Care’s Natural Bug Repellent. This all natural bug spray uses citronella to keep pests away.

SPF

Summer hikes offer beautiful views and the warmth of the sun on your skin, but they can also lead you with irritating sun burns. Packing an SPF and reapplying every 2 hours protects your skin from irritation, inflammation, and redness.

First Aid Kit

First aid kits are essential for your hiking trip in case of any emergencies. Bandaids, gauze, Neosporin, are all great to bring along in case of any emergencies.

Snacks/Water

When doing any physical activity, it’s so important to stay satiated and hydrated. Be sure to pack enough water and snacks like granola bars or nuts to give you the energy you need on your hike.

Hand Sanitizer

The outdoors can bring unwanted dirt and germs, so carrying along some hand sanitizer on your hike couldn’t hurt!
